Finding the right partners can be the difference between profitability and losing money. Take equipment and ingredient suppliers, for example. In our supplier relationship story, we detailed the importance of building the proper partnerships:
One of the biggest questions to ask your current or prospective supplier, according to Melody Meyer, marketing manager for Hopunion LLC, is: How can I contact your staff?
“There are a lot of questions and obstacles that breweries face. If they are unable to have a direct relationship with their supplier, the odds of that relationship failing are much higher,” Meyer said.

The same could be said for distribution partners. They’re on the beer sales front lines, and having a partner you can trust makes your life easier. Look at Deschutes Brewery — it has formed new partnerships with distributors Horizon Beverage Co. and Markstein Sales Co. The two companies will now distribute the company’s craft beers in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in California. Deschutes Brewery has had distribution in the region for many years, previously working with Bay Area Beverage Co.
Chris Hudson, Western Division director for the Oregon-based brewery, said, “We’re excited to be working with Horizon and Markstein in the East Bay, one of our vital neighboring regions. We are thankful to Bay Area Beverage for their many years of support and wish them many more years of success.”
