Some stuff we like: limited edition series and using local artists. Wynwood Brewing Co., which approaches brewing the way an artist may approach a canvas, is combining that stuff for, yes, a true limited edition work of art. Worthy of a designation in our ongoing Craft Beer Marketing Idea of the Week Series.*
“To us, art is inherent to craft beer. We’ve always brewed the recipes we truly love and that’s why our patrons love them as much as we do. This is an opportunity to display the beauty of art outside of these bottles,” said Luis Brignoni, co-founder of Wynwood Brewing Co.
The Miami-based brewery is partnering with local artist Lola Blu to hand-paint 150 bottles for a special treatment called Lola Bru. Just look how fun this is.
The bonafides of Lola Blu
Lola Blu is a self-taught artist and a drummer. She is best known for merging the worlds of contemporary art and music by bringing to life unconventional canvases that grace top stages such as the drumset for Questlove as seen on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She has also designed for Usher’s URX Tour and the Anderson .Paak drumset for the Grammys and Bruno Mars 24k Tour.
“The spectrum of my work ranges from traditional canvases to musical instruments, vehicles, furniture and yachts,” said Lola Blu. “I’m thrilled to add beer bottles to my repertoire; something I’ve wanted to do for a while now with Wynwood Brewing Co.”
The beer
Lola Blu’s work was so inspiring that Wynwood Brewing felt it was important to create a special ale appropriately called Lola Bru. It will be comprised of a Tripel that was barrel aged and blended with Father Francisco and tart cherries. It will clock in at 9.0 percent ABV and 31.0 IBUs, thereby making these bottles unique both inside and out.
Lola Bru will be officially released on August 5 at Wynwood Brewing. Doors open at noon, but the bottles will be available for sale at 1 p.m. for $35 plus tax. Lola Blu will be on hand to finish a wall she’s painting inside the taproom. Wynwood will tap Lola Bru at 6 o’clock. These bottles are available until supplies last.
