As you may know, the California drought forced Bear Republic to decrease production and pull out of some markets such as Massachusetts and Texas last year, leaving distributors scrambling. Its brews are currently available in just 10 states, including North Carolina, where Mims Distributing is its exclusive partner, which just scored the distribution of Bear Republic’s Tartare Berliner Weisse.
“We are very fortunate to be able to work with Bear Republic, a brewery with a strong foundation of excellent flavor and craft tradition,” said Chip Mims, CEO of Mims Distributing Co.. “The Berliner Weisse beer is hard to master, but Bear Republic really encompassed the unique flavor with the Tartare. We are excited to provide select North Carolina locations with a rare brew that many people have been eager to try.”
The Tartare Berliner Weisse is a limited barrel-aged sour beer from the famed California brewery, which according to the distributor, offers an interpretation of one of the world’s classic sour beer styles that’s characteristically tart and low in alcohol. The beer will land in select bars across North Carolina this summer (time is running out! Pumpkin beers are already here!), and the distributor was quick to point out that it pairs well with steamed mussels and other shellfish.
“The Tartare is one of the world’s classic sour beer styles and has been dubbed as the ‘Champagne of the North.’ We thought that it would be a great unique addition to North Carolina’s craft beer scene,” said Bear Republic’s Jonathan Williman. “With access to the entire state and some of craft beer’s biggest fans, Mims was a natural choice to get the word out about this rare, tasty brew.”
