Zymurgy is a great magazine, but every year it’s list of the best beers in America is a bit boring. For instance, Russian River Brewing Co.’s Pliny the Elder won best beer in America eight years in row. EIGHT! But now it’s only the second-best beer in America because for two years in a row Bell’s Brewery’s Two Hearted Ale has been named No. 1 in the annual Best Beers in America survey conducted by Zymurgy. Yawn….
Now running in its 16th year, the survey asked members of the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), which publishes Zymurgy, to choose up to five of their favorite commercial beers available for purchase in the United States, and those beers rarely change. According to the press release:
Despite the plethora of delicious options available to beer lovers, the same two beers have been battling it out for first place for the past eight years. For the second straight year, Bell’s Two Hearted Ale bested Russian River’s Pliny the Elder, which had taken the top spot from 2009 to 2016.
Congrats Bell’s. Two Hearted is an amazing beer, but let’s remember, thousands of breweries across America are making equally good suds these days. On top of that, Bell’s and Founders took multiple entries in the Zymurgy rankings. Anyway, here’s the lauded list.
