Surf Brewery, a small packaging craft brewery with an onsite tasting room and homebrew shop, open since 2011, announced new plans to expand operations and double capacity. The footprint of its existing building will not be enlarged, the brewery will just be adding equipment and refrigeration space. The added capacity will allow Surf to continue to provide its local craft beer to the growing demand in Ventura County, Calif., for craft beers.
“Equipment orders were placed back in January and initial plans were submitted to the City of Ventura in April,” said General Manager and Co-founder Bill Riegler. “It’s a lengthy and costly process for any small business to try and grow, no one makes it easy for you, and we financed everything internally, no bank loans or additional investors. Beyond the local need, this added capacity will also allow us to reach more of our fans down along the coast of Southern California who have been asking for a larger presence; Redondo Beach, Huntington Beach, La Jolla, Escondido.”
Let’s meet some of Surf Brewery’s best beers: Mondo’s Blonde Ale, named after a local beginning surf spot, is a favorite at local fish taco restaurants. The new Aerial IPA, a classic West Coast, aggressively hopped beer, named after an aggressive surf maneuver, has gained a lot of popularity at Surf’s tasting room as well as restaurants in East County.
Surf plans are to bottle Aerial with the expansion.
