Shiner, Texas-based Spoetzl Brewery is donating $100,000 contribution to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in Houston, Texas, following the recent damaging storms. Shiner is the famed brewer of Shiner Bock.
“We are saddened to see the destruction to the Houston area,” stated Tom Fiorenzi, Director of Brewery and Distillery Operations for Shiner. “The Shiner family feels it is important to support the American Red Cross’ efforts as they help our Texas neighbors recover.”
In the wake of similar natural disasters, Shiner Beers and the Spoetzl Brewery ownership have donated funds to charitable organizations providing relief services in the most affected areas. Shiner has supported similar relief efforts following unforeseen disasters earlier in the wake of the North Texas wildfires this year, after the Southern U.S. and Ohio Valley tornadoes in 2021 and many other natural disasters over the past 20 years:
In September 2020, Shiner contributed to Hurricane Laura relief efforts in Louisiana.
- In 2018, Shiner supported relief efforts in Florida and Georgia following Hurricane Michael, as well as in the Carolinas and Virginia following Hurricane Florence.
- In 2017, Shiner supported those areas affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Irma in Florida and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
- Prior to that, Shiner contributed to the relief efforts for the catastrophic flooding in Central Louisiana in 2016, Hurricane Sandy in 2012, Hurricane Ike in 2008 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The Spoetzl Brewery was founded in Shiner, Texas (population 2,069), in 1909, brewing beer with old-world traditions and recipes for the many German and Czech settlers in Central Texas. Since then, the brewery has grown to be one of the largest independent craft brewers in the country, available in all 50 states and Mexico.
