The Pink Boots Society, an international nonprofit organization that assists, inspires and encourages women beer professionals through education, recently announced that San Diego’s Mayor Kevin Faulconer issued a Proclamation deeming June 3, 2017, Pink Boots Society Day.
The mayor’s proclamation makes a good day even better because June 3 is also the day of Pink Boots Society’s 10th Anniversary Beer Festival, which will be held at Liberty Station’s Ingram Plaza in San Diego. More than 35 breweries, most of which have Pink Boots members who are brewers or employed in another capacity, will serve over 70 beers at the festival.
When asked about the proclamation, Laura Ulrich, Pink Boots Society president and small batch brewer at Stone Brewing replied, “I think I speak for Pink Boots Society’s entire membership, especially the San Diego chapter, when I say we are truly humbled and honored by this recognition from Mayor Faulconer and the City of San Diego.”
Mayor Faulconer’s proclamation states:
Whereas, the Pink Boots Society was formally established to assist, inspire and encourage women beer industry professionals to advance their careers through education in 2007, and in 2013 did receive nonprofit designation and has, since its inception worked tirelessly towards its mission and goals.
Whereas, the largest and most active Pink Boots Society chapter is the charter San Diego chapter, consisting of over 100 women representing regional San Diego breweries.
Whereas, Pink Boots Society has grown from one female brewmaster’s inspirational trip across the United States to encompass over 1,200 members across the globe, extending diplomacy and goodwill across the world on behalf of females in the beer industry.
Whereas, with the assistance of many brewing industry partners Pink Boots Society has given away over 50 professional brewing industry scholarships since 2013, furthering education within San Diego by presenting educational opportunities, collaboration brew days and free market thinking within its membership and has helped generate support and excitement over local and regionally available beer within its chapter markets, including San Diego, the first chapter of Pink Boots Society.
Whereas, craft breweries and brewpubs in the center-north part of the City of San Diego (City Council District 6) annually generated over $71 million in regional economic impact, and establishments in the San Diego City Council District 6 area also produced over $102 million in sales, supported over 630 jobs and represent about 10 percent of the county’s total for craft brew employment and sales, and whereas Pink Boots members make up a significant and integral portion of that economic impact.
Whereas, in honor of the important role San Diego has played in the development and growth of the Pink Boots Society, and in honor of Pink Boots Society 10th Anniversary, Pink Boots Society has chosen San Diego as the hostess city for the momentous occasion, and has chosen the Lafayette Hotel and Swim Club to further be the site of an historic event: the first ever all female beer industry professionals conference featuring all female speakers, presenters and moderators.
Whereas, the Pink Boots Society will also host a public beer festival, further stimulating the San Diego economy and returning to San Diego some of the cheer and goodwill and thanks of support in celebration. This Pink Boots Society 10th Anniversary Beer Festival at Ingram Plaza in Liberty Station will feature 38 breweries, 20 of which are located in San Diego, and will be held June 3, 2017. So it shall be!
