Toledo, Ohio’s oldest brewery still producing beer, GBSBrewing Co., is breaking ground on a new 6,000 sq ft spot that will feature a tavern, outdoor beer garden and future restaurant, plus the opportunity to brew its beer onsite. After 12 years in the business, co-owner Andy Parish says this new location is really the start of their true vision.
“We have been operating out of 2 locations for the last 5 years and it is finally time to move into the direction we have always talked about,” he says. “The industry is changing and we needed to change with it. Our current locations in Perrysburg and central Toledo were not adequate anymore for the customer experience we desired and it did not allow us to interact with the industry in a way for us to grow and share our love of beer.”
The new location will allow the beer lover to see the production facility and experience the beer being made, all while sitting outside in the beer garden or the indoor bar & dining area and enjoy one of the oldest beers in town.
The new South Toledo facility will begin construction soon. With many of South Toledo’s great bars, brew houses, and restaurants in close proximity, the team believes this will help continue to revitalize the south end and create great synergy with those in the surrounding areas.
“We plan on having multiple open houses as construction moves forward to show our progress,” Parish says. “Our current Perrysburg location is sold. A handful of GBS beers will remain on tap with the new owner, and our friends can continue to find GBS beers at many local bars, restaurants and liquor stores.”
