Don’t call it a comeback … well, maybe call it a comeback: 16 Lots Southern Outpost in Newport, Ky., announced its grand re-opening for March 15 after candidly asking the community for help.
In mid-January, the brewery sent out a public appeal, soliciting support to keep its doors open — a candid admission from owners Mike Burton and Del Hall that the business had been struggling, and the brewery’s future was in jeopardy. They closed down the kitchen and shortened operating hours, calling on friends, fans and supporters for help in the weeks that followed.
The response was astounding.
“The entire community came together to make this work,” says Mike Burton, 16 Lots founder and co-owner. “Including tremendous support from both our landlord, North American Properties, and our financial partner, Eclipse Bank. Our in-house team worked tirelessly to keep things running, and brand-new investors joined us. I’m beyond proud of what we accomplished together … we could not have done it alone.”
The brewery now has a clear path forward for a continued future at Newport on the Levee.
“We put the call out, and I’m absolutely blown away by how many people answered it,” says Del Hall, co-owner and chief commercial officer. “For everyone who came through our doors over the last uncertain weeks, shared our stories and helped promote us on social, we’re beyond grateful … you all did it!”
We’ve been fans of 16 Lots ever since it hosted the first pride event ever at Newport on the Levee—a Drag Brunch featuring some of Cincy’s most beloved and well-known performers.
Veteran-owned, born along the river in May of 2023, this 7,700-square-foot establishment has a 2,000-square-foot, two-sided patio with stunning views of downtown Cincinnati and the Ohio River, as well as a cigar lounge (with speakeasy-style hidden door) and stage for live music and events.
Beers are brewed on a 10 bbl brewhouse, the Southern Outpost offers traditional brewery-style service for beer, beverages and food on weeknights and weekends.
Starting March 15, the brewery will have updated spring operating hours and food service, along with a revamped business model and marketing plan. An official ribbon cutting and live band will also be part of the Grand Re-Opening festivities.
