The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum and NegroLeaguesHistory.com unveiled the officially licensed, limited-edition Satchel Paige Talking Baseball Bobblehead Series this week along with a Negro Leagues Celebration Beer Series featuring Satchel Paige. The initial release by the Main & Mill Brewing Company and NegroLeaguesHistory unveiled the series in a 4-pack of 16-ounce cans as well as kegs. Each 4-pack contains four cans with different labels of Satchel Paige based on paintings by renowned artist, Graig Kreindler.
The collectible beer cans feature Paige in the uniforms of the 1928 Birmingham Black Barons, the 1931 Cleveland Cubs, the 1937 Dragones de Ciudad Trujillo (Dominican Republic), and the 1942 Kansas City Monarchs. The beer style is an American Style Pilsner typical of the era from 1920 – 1940 when the Negro Leagues were at its peak.
The beer is available at Main & Mill Brewing Company in Missouri and through their Missouri distributor, Craft Republic. Main & Mill’s beer can be found around Missouri in grocery stores, craft beer stores, bars, and liquor stores. Tavour, an on-line distributor of fine craft beers will distribute the Negro Leagues Celebration Series.
Punk legends Pennywise partner with El Segundo Brewing
Southern California punk legends Pennywise have partnered with independently owned El Segundo Brewing Co. in LA’s South Bay to release Unknown Road, named for the band’s landmark sophomore album. The golden ale has an ABV of 5% and is available now in select Southern California stores, bars and restaurants, with expanded distribution planned in the coming months. Pennywise presents Unknown Road is available in 16 oz. cans and on draft.
El Segundo Brewing Company Owner/Brewer Rob Croxall said, “This is a really fun collab and we’re stoked that Pennywise wanted to work with us on it. They said they wanted an ‘all day drinker,’ and for that you don’t want something that’s too hoppy like an IPA, you really want a malt driven ale, basically ‘beer flavored beer.’ It’s a classic style that matches perfectly with a legendary South Bay band.”
Widmer showcases rebrand with its renowned Hefe
Widmer Bros. is refreshing its branding for the first time in nearly 40 years, and its classic American-style hefeweizen Hefe is just the beer to debut it. It was clear from the research that there was pride behind the Widmer name that should shine in the branding. The large “W” has become the most important part of the logo, also featuring wheat as a nod to Hefewizen, the beer the brand is best known for.
Wheat Ale is the No. 3 style nationally by sales, and Widmer Bros. sees big potential for Hefe to excel nationally. The new packaging is simple, clean, and classy- uniting the Widmer Brothers beers under a cohesive approachable brand identity full of history and pride. Their Portland brewery has gotten a refresh too, opening its doors for tours highlighting the heart of the brewery, the brand new Quality Assurance space.
