The data team from social media marketing platform Socialbakers took a closer look at the top beer brands from around the world — and in particular, how influencers and people on Instagram talk about beer and what kind of beer they prefer. And yes, just like the medium itself, the results are something for you to look at real quick and then forget about instantly.
Socialbakers looked at the most famous brands of beer including: Budlight, Budweiser, Carlsberg, Corona, Guinness, Heineken, Hoegaarden, Paulaner, Pilsner Urquell or Stella Artois and if influencers are using hashtags with these beer names; if so what is the most popular? And the winner is #corona.
“An interesting note is that our data showed that people are mostly using only hashtags and not mentioning the brands specifically,” the Socialbakers team tells us.
Next, the team looked at what kind of beer was getting the most attention via hashtags on Instagram – the clear winner was a #ipa.
This is actually interesting to us though, considering none of those most hashtagged beer brands in chart 1 are an IPA. And I kind of doubt that someone hashtagging a Heineken or Bud Light is also noting its beer style. So, one could argue that this chart shows craft beer as a collective is trending more than every macro beer in the study except Corona. I could also be dead wrong, but who cares.
Finally, Socialbakers compared beer versus wine hashtags and their usage among influencers. Focusing on the countries where the beer is brewed.
In this relative comparison the #beer popularity on Instagram is the biggest in Belgium, Czech Republic and in Ireland. Only in these specific countries usage of #beer is bigger than #wine. The U.S. comes in at a respectable fourth place.
