Centennial, Colo.-based Resolute Brewing Co. sent word that Justin Burnsed has come on board as its new head brewer. Burnsed joined the team mid-January.
In 2014, Burnsed relocated from his home state of California as the head brewer for then startup, Mockery Brewing. At Mockery, he successfully developed more than 100 unique beers on a 15-bbl system. Since he joined the Resolute team, he has created and tapped several new beers — including a Wee Heavy, Rum Raisin Imperial Stout and a Blonde — and has plans for a new Session IPA, Strawberry Wheat Wine and Irish Red with rye and clover honey in the coming months.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Justin to the Resolute family,” said Clifton Oertli, Resolute co-founder and partner. “His experience in both micro- and larger craft breweries, plus a propensity for both true-to-style and creative beers, will prove instrumental in Resolute’s growth in the coming years.”
Burnsed found his passion for craft beer while completing his undergrad at California State University, Chico. He frequented Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s original taproom during his time in college and began homebrewing shortly after he graduated.
Burnsed decided to make a career change to the brewing industry in 2009 and graduated from the University of California, Davis’ master brewers program the following year. During his time at UC Davis, Burnsed interned at Firehouse Brewing Co. in San Diego, Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido, Calif., and across the pond at BrewDog’s Fraserburgh brewery in Scotland. He was the head brewer and one of the founding partners of Prospectors Brewing in Mariposa, Calif., when the brewery opened in 2011.
Burnsed is a member of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, as well as London’s Institute of Brewing and Distilling.
