As I type my 500 trillionth word into the void that is the internet, I can firmly say: Work sucks. Evil Genius Beer Co. agrees, and promoted an entire Ditch Work Day (which includes free beer) on May 3 at their taproom — an idea so good it made typing into the void a pure delight today.
For Ditch Work Day, the Evil Genius taproom opened early at noon and encouraged guests to call out of work in exchange for early access to the new beer and try a can free of charge.
Evil Genius Beer Co., founded in 2011, pride themselves on their “Very Silly Names for Very Serious Beers.” With Ditch Work Day, Evil Genius also celebrated the pop-punk subculture of the late 90’s with their newest beer offering “Work Sucks, I Know.”
“When we create beers we want to evoke positive, nostalgic memories along with a great tasting product” said Trevor Hayward, Co-Founder of Evil Genius. “With this brew we wanted to pay homage to the 90’s alternative subculture that raised us. This brew definitely evokes memories of throwing on a flannel, playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, or even trying on your first pair of Doc Martens, Hayward continued.
Work Sucks, I Know is a brand new beer for the Philadelphia brewer’s and the first of its kind in their portfolio. This beer marks the lowest ABV offering from the Fishtown based beer company at just 5.0% ABV but does so without sacrificing any flavor. Unlike other offerings on the market, Work Sucks, I Know retains tons of hop character in both aroma and taste due to its unique hop profile. The beer features an abundance of tropical, stone-fruity flavors from additions of Galaxy Hops, a sought after strain of Australian hops, as well as strong citrus notes from aptly-named, Citra Hops. It’s also light on the palate and delivers a clean, dry finish that leaves you wanting another sip.
Work Sucks, I Know will be available outside their taproom starting on May 6th throughout Evil Genius’ distribution footprint including CT, DE, MD, MI, NJ, OH, PA, and VA . The brew comes packaged in both six-packs of twelve ounce cans for retail stores and kegs for bars and restaurants.
