Lakefront Brewery Inc. and Tyranena Brewing Co. have released their collaboration beer: Triple IPA Brewed with Grapefruit. And not just one grapefruit; we’re talking 80 pounds of nature’s freshest and finest grapefruits, plus Magnum, Simcoe, Citra, Galaxy and Amarillo hops.
The robust, citrusy concoction checks in at 9.25% ABV. A collaboration beer was a natural progression in the two breweries’ relationship, according to Tyranena Founder and Brewer Rob Larson.

“We had done a keg swap for American Craft Beer Week for the past five years; there’s some good camaraderie there,” Larson said. “It seemed like a good fit.”
Luther Paul, Lakefront Brewery’s Head Brewer, acknowledged the mutual goodwill, saying, “They’re brewing some of the best beer in the state, and we’re honored to work with them.” The two breweries talked about brewing a beer together for the past couple years, according to Paul: “We’re both fortunate to have fans because of our hoppy beers.” When developing a recipe with Larson, Paul emphasized that they “wanted to push the envelope with this recipe.”
Established in 1999, Tyranena Brewing Co., based in Lake Mills, Wisc., produces five year-round beers, 11 seasonal brews and a number of specialty flavors. Each Tyranena beer name pays homage to the history and folklore of the Lake Mills area, referring to something quintessentially Wisconsin.
Lakefront Brewery Inc. was started in 1987 and is celebrating its 27th anniversary this year. The brewery currently produces 45,000 barrels of beer per year and distributes its products to 36 states, Canada and Japan.
