Due to overwhelming demand, Karl Strauss Brewing Co. announced the reintroduction and year-round availability of its award-winning Mosaic Session Ale, a surprisingly sessionable single-hop beer.
First brewed in 2013 as part of Karl Strauss Brewing Co.’s small batch program, this fan favorite was a limited release in 2014 when it went on an impressive medal run. In fact, just last month, the beer won gold in the 2015 Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition.
“Our Mosaic Session Ale is the ideal hop bomb: super vibrant and bursting with aromas of grapefruit, citrus and tropical fruits,” says Paul Segura, Karl Strauss Brewing Co. brewmaster. “It’s got plenty of hops but is also sessionable, so you can enjoy a few.”
When the Mosaic hop first came out in 2012, Karl’s brewers couldn’t wait to experiment with it. Brewer Sean Albrecht was so inspired that he set out to brew a beer specifically designed to let this new hop variety take center stage. Albrecht brewed the original 7-bbl batch at the brewing company’s downtown satellite brewery and it sold out in just a few days.
“At that time, the Mosaic hop was new on the scene and no one was really pushing the boundaries with it yet,” Albrecht said. “As soon as I smelled Mosaic hops, I knew I wanted to brew a single-hop beer that would focus on its bold citrus aromatics.”
