In case you didn’t know: 10 Barrel Brewing Co. is opening up a new San Diego pub location this weekend — May 27th — just in time for Memorial Day. Also, in case you didn’t know: 10 Barrel is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev (a.k.a. Beer Voltron); 10 Barrel is a part of The High End, Anheuser-Busch’s business unit focused on its faux craft brands, including the likes of Goose Island, Blue Point Brewing, Elysian Brewing, Golden Road Brewing and (just recently) Wicked Weed Brewing (10 “crafty” brands in all).
These brands are not craft beer, according to both the Brewers Association definition and to San Diego resident Richard Robert Esparza. The latter is also known as San Diego Beer Fan, who is currently spearheading a GoFundMe page to collect donations to rent a plane and fly a banner that says “10 Barrel Is Not Craft Beer” over the pub’s grand opening this weekend. The crowd funding has already surpassed its $900 goal and is well over $2,000 territory now. From the GoFundMe page:
I’m raising funds to pay for an aerial banner to fly around San Diego that says, “10 Barrel Is Not Craft Beer.” The date, May 27th. The same day 10 Barrel is hosting their block party.
I set the goal for $900 as after the 2.9% + $.30 per transaction fees, roughly $825 will be generated, the cost to fly a banner for three hours. If we generate more, we will either extend the flight time, or fly the banner on another day.
Not going to explain why I’m doing this. You either get it, or you don’t.
Ha. We get it. In fact, I’m checking with our employee owners to see if we want to help fund this.

Thanks for the article! My wife’s grandmother used to call me Richard, so it works for me!
