StillFire Brewing has become the first Georgia brewery to accept the crypto-currency Bitcoin as payment in its taproom. Starting this week, patrons will be able to purchase any of the brewery’s assortment of beers and seltzers, as well as swag and other merchandise using the world’s fastest growing currency.
StillFire Brewing, which has only been brewing since 2019, says it decided to accept Bitcoin in the taproom because it has all the benefits of cash — no third party involvement or bank fees — combined with advantages of electronic transactions, immediate confirmation of payment and no physical items to handle.
“Bitcoin allows our customers a cheaper, faster and more secure way to enjoy our beer,” said General Manager Aaron Bisges, “Our patrons want simplicity, and we are excited to be able to offer that to them.”

The brewery will be using the Bitcoin payment processor, CoinBase, which offers tools that allow merchants to accept Bitcoin and have U.S. dollars deposited into their bank accounts the next day for a 1 percent fee. This removes any concerns of Bitcoin’s price volatility while allowing them to take advantage of the efficiencies of the Bitcoin payment network. Credit card processors can charge upwards of 2 to 3 percent in addition to equipment rental, membership fees and worrying about fraudulent charge-backs.
“It’s clear to us that today’s customers are tech-savvy and prefer to do their shopping and browsing online,” said Bisges. “The natural progression from this is to start offering cryptocurrency, and we’re really looking forward to seeing just how many people are willing to purchase in this way. The future is here and it includes good beer.”
