The FX Matt (Saranac) Brewery, in Utica, NY, made another acquisition in its ongoing expansion in the burgeoning ready-to-drink cocktail market: ‘Merican Mule, a spirits-based RTD cocktail company that cans Moscow Mule cocktails. Currently distributed across 18 states in thousands of retailers, ‘Merican Mule’s acquisition by FX Matt is set to dramatically increase its distribution and brand presence.
‘Merican Mule, based in Norwalk, Connecticut, according to Nielsen IQ, ranks as the second most ordered cocktail on-premise in the United States. The brand’s diverse portfolio includes Mule cocktail variations made with vodka, tequila, rum, and bourbon, resonating strongly with a passionate consumer base.
“The opportunity to hand the reigns of our special brand to an industry veteran like FX Matt, sets ‘Merican Mule up for continued momentum and massive growth,” said Dean Mahoney.
The latest acquisition follows FX Matt’s successful integration of Flying Dog Brewery, Maryland’s largest craft brewery by volume, earlier this year. The addition of ‘Merican Mule to FX Matt’s portfolio underscores the company’s strategic vision to broaden its reach in high-growth, emerging channels and reinforces its position as a legacy brand looking to drive innovation in new ways.
“We are thrilled to welcome ‘Merican Mule into our family,” said Fred Matt, President of FX Matt. “The quality and unique positioning of ‘Merican Mule’s products align perfectly with our vision of delivering exceptional and innovative beverages. We see tremendous potential in the Moscow Mule subcategory within RTD and are excited to lead growth with ‘Merican Mule as a flagship brand in our Right Coast Spirits division.”
‘Merican Mule will be added to the Right Coast Spirits division, a joint venture between FX Matt, Flying Dog, and Harpoon Brewery (Mass Bay Brewing Co.). The addition of ‘Merican Mule compliments the division’s existing brand, Right Coast Vodka & Margarita Whips cocktails and new Italian Ice, positioning Right Coast Spirits as a leading player in the RTD segment.
