Paruzal games are not only cool, they are pandemic appropriate. The Denver-based internet business basically brings the escape room experience into your house. While the business seems like a reaction to Covid-19, it actually started in 2019, and its premise is now perfect for our collective homebound lifestyles. Wanna get the vibe? I love this description on the website:
The same year we discovered escape rooms, we decided that simply sitting across a table to hand each other Christmas gifts could be more exciting. That year, we began making puzzles out of the gift-giving process. At first, it was simple close-up pictures of things around the house which took the recipient from kitchen to living room to behind the bookshelf, and so on. Subsequent years got even crazier. In 2015, I had to melt a clue out of a block of ice, so for 2016, I made sure she had to run a key along a string that stretched the length of our apartment, out a window, down a few floors, and wrapped around a tree in the backyard. Things progressed until Christmas 2019, when we each wrote game scripts for the other one, describing a fictional environment for the other one to escape from. This is what ultimately became Paruzal.
Love it. Cleverly, Denver’s River North Brewery is teaming up with Paruzal to celebrate International Beer Day on August 7 (that’s tomorrow) with a unique-twist on game night.
How will it work?
These will be live-hosted, interactive puzzles using the Zoom video conferencing tool from the comfort of home with craft beer to keep your solving skills fresh and creative. Players will explore rooms for clues that will ultimately free them from their adventures and their mundane lives before the clock runs out. The adventures will be paired with beers. To the press release!
“This year, we’re calling it Virtual Adventure Fuel,” says Matt Hess, the founder of River North Brewery. “We’re really proud of the pairings we’ve developed for these variously-themed rooms. Escape rooms are all about discovery, and this is a great way to discover some new micro-brews.”
Participants can choose from four Paruzal online escape-room adventures and pair them with the locally brewed River North beers of their choice. If there’s any trouble deciding, River North and Paruzal came up with beer pairings for each game:
Ep. 1: Trapped Under Water & River North’s White Witbier
When you’re exploring the depths of a sunken galleon, it helps to have something light and refreshing on tap. River North’s Belgian Style Witbier, White, is just that with a subtle spicy, citrus aroma and a delicate, dry finish. Plus, it’s won multiple gold medals that will inspire moments of greatness as you and your team race to solve the ship’s riddles and get back to the surface.
Ep. 2: Get Your Motor Running & River North’s Soiree Raspberry Kettle Sour
You’ll be the mechanic with the magic touch once River North’s Soiree supercharges your senses with its tart, fruity flavors. Get your engine started and captain your boat back to shore before the storm hits, all while indulging in the uniquely engaging smooth, medium bodied sour ale.
Ep. 3: Sneaking Backstage & River North’s Colorado IPA
A crisp IPA is what you’ll need to stay sharp and focused as you gather the clues that will help you meet Bruce Springsteen, The Boss himself, backstage after his show. This bright Colorado IPA is the perfect selection to enhance your group’s quest for all the Springsteen trivia “Easter eggs” that can be found in this puzzle.
Ep. 4: Pizza Makes Anything Possible & River North’s PILS
A solid lager always goes great with a fresh cheese pie, so we recommend River North PILS be the first ingredient on your list as you and your team rush to get your pizza shop open. Bright and golden, this refreshing Rocky Mountain PILS will have you running your pizzeria in record time.
