Beer and falcons. Two very cool things. Two things I hadn’t really thought of together till late last week when I noticed there was a falcon living in a Briess elevator overlooking Lake Michigan.
Briess is one of America’s biggest and best specialty malt producers. Briess Malt and Ingredients Co. has invested heavily in its Manitowoc, Wis., footprint over the last few years, acquiring a large grain processing operation in Manitowoc back in 2014 — about 40 miles from its Chilton campus in Wisconsin. The expansive Manitowoc operation includes a 244-ft elevator. That elevator has a Peregrine Falcon nesting box in it with a camera. On Friday, I noticed that box had a falcon in it. Then when she flew off, I noticed she had babies.
Can you even?
I watched these adorable raptors all day, via a minimized, stuck-up-in-the-corner window on my desktop. From the Briess website:
The top floor of the 244-foot Briess elevator overlooking Lake Michigan in Manitowoc, Wisc, is home to a Peregrine Falcon nesting box. Installed in 1992, the nest has produced 59 falcons since its occupation. Watch nature unfold through the eyes of our Briess Falcon Webcam, equipped with infrared lighting for 24/7 viewing.
And expect more falcon coverage on CBB.
