When we launched Craft Brewing Business, we wanted it to feel different — not just for beer professionals — but for ourselves. There we were, four b2b publishing entrepreneurs, starting our own independent media organization, freed from any bosses or boundaries. We snuck this fact into the end of our tagline: Professional Insight — Unfiltered. Now, we’re allowing for even more unfettered insights, ideas and grievances on this website from the brew pros themselves, with a new recurring feature: Unfiltered.
We’re working with Craft Beer Professionals as our Official Conversation Collaborator. The CBP Facebook group is always throwing around ideas, and we’re going to tap into that community chatter and relay our favorite responses from the most engaged threads. You can (and should) of course head over to CBP if interested in the full thread (you’ll have to join the community though), or just add in your own comments below. And FYI, CBP does a good job of being a safe space and not letting the knuckle draggers drag things down into the muck.
OK, enough of us. We picked this one for the spontaneity and creative ideas that emerged. Also, it’s just a great thought exercise to ask yourself every day.
What is the No. 1 reason someone should visit your taproom today?
Larry Caldwell, Great Heights Brewing: Consistently good quality beers that I would consider underpriced for the area and a friendly staff who takes the time to get to know the clientele and give them a great experience.
Dirk Loeffler: If it is a brewpub, the old rule still stands: People come for the beer and they come back for the food. In taprooms only it would be a great atmosphere with good beers. Think of your taproom as part of brand building.
Jason Sheaves, River Outpost Brewing: Awesome beer, full arcade, ropes course, axe throwing, super tasty food (especially the pizza), and if you aren’t much for the noisy side, go upstairs for the higher end restaurant and get some amazing food in a great setting overlooking the middle Hudson River.
Kristen Smith Boucher: We’re having a party for the one-year anniversary for our very first employee! 👏🏻👏🏻 Food and live music.
Kacie Fitzy: Idlewild Spirits has a wood burning fireplace to warm yourself up after a day on the slopes at Winter Park Resort. We also have amazing spirits (you should try our barrel-aged gin) as well as great food (such as our cashew lettuce wraps or house smoked wings). Because we are a distillery pub, we also have a full bar for our amazing bartenders to make almost any cocktail your heart could desires 🍸
Tom Albright: If the No. 1 reason isn’t the beer, but instead it’s some gimmick, maybe you should stop and have a think about what you’re doing.
- Sweeney Bob: @Tom Albright what if it’s not a gimmick, but a gathering place for community? Beer is good, atmosphere is good, service is good, no gimmick, just a great place? Beer isn’t the No. 1 thing that makes a place successful these days. Good beer isn’t hard to find with a brewery on every corner. Just my opinion, but beer isn’t the number one attraction to an establishment, I disagree respectfully.
Tyler Burgei, Landlocked Ales: Retro ski party for the birthday of one of the owners (my wife)! Bring your boards/skis for a waxing and party down.
Michael Paul Lukacina, Magnanimous Brewing: Wrestling and Bob Ross on the tube, and we open at 7am everyday.
- CBB editor: OK, I have to move to Tampa, I guess.
Michael Perozzo, The Juice Box: We got Pints & Poses Yoga this morning and a comedy show headlined by the winner of the Seattle Comedy Festival at The Juice Box tonight!
Stephen Michael Andrade, Indie Brewing Co.: We are having our sixth-year anniversary prom themed party! If you didn’t go in HS, then now is your chance as an adult with a beer in your hand.
Carrie Simison, Cerberus Brewing: Because we’ve got BOGO pints and crowlers of our three sour beers for Sour Saturday and Sour Sunday at Cerberus Brewing Co.
Caprese Kempter, Estes Park Brewery: Free flights
- Dan Knabb: Your poor bartenders
- Dan Knabb: *pour
- Caprese Kempter: @Dan Knabb I’m the beertender that pours the free flights. It is something we have done since 92 when we opened. It’s actually pretty awesome. No one is ever mad at me. I also however don’t handle rejection well!!!😉
- Caprese Kempter: @Dan Knabb most people don’t even believe this happens!!!
- CBB Editor: Count us among them. What the.
