Buffalo Creek Brewing has become one of the biggest attractions in historic downtown Long Grove, Ill., which is about 35 miles from Chicago. Maybe it’s that excellent 17,000-sq-ft barn-style brewery (once an art studio) that attracts a zillion patrons. Maybe it’s the Bavarian-style taproom, sprawling wooden patios, outdoor stone lounge with picnic tables or those year-round rental opportunities. Actually, it could be just the pro wrestling. If you look around Buffalo Creek long enough, you’ll find something you enjoy — especially this summer.
Lake County’s destination brewery is ending the summer months with a bunch of funness, including its first annual Bier Rock Fest, August 4th (4 to 11 p.m.) and 5th (12 to 11 p.m.). This is an outdoor music fest, and it’s free, featuring two days of German beer, German games, and high energy rock bands which are not German, including Chicago’s own WHT.RBBT.OBJ. Let’s take a listen:
From the press release:
“Bier Rock Fest is the rock n’ roll version of Oktoberfest,” said Buffalo Creek Brewing owner Mike Marr, in the press release. “It’s a good thing our biergarten doesn’t have a roof because we’re prepared to blow the lid off the place!”
That, admittedly, sounds very cool, but do you want to know what sounds a smidge cooler? Pro wrestling. On August 13th, Buffalo Creek Brewing is bringing Chicago-based 2econd Wrestling to its Long Grove arena with its Half Nelson, Full Force event. It will be 2econd Wrestling’s first-ever outdoor show with ring-side seating in the biergarten and skybox sponsor suites on the brewery upper deck available for purchase. 2econd Wrestling, of course, includes stars like NWA’s Dak Draper and Missa Kate, along with other fan favorites like the Party Unicorn Laynie Luck, the Stampede Jackson Larkin, Shazza Mackenzie, and the debut of Kody Lane. Let’s watch…
Impressive. Most impressive. On August 13th, doors open at 1 p.m. and the show begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through EventBrite. Call the taproom at (847) 821-6140 for info on skybox sponsorship suites, which include unlimited beers and private group space.
Here are some other cool haps in August and September.
Burger Throw-Down (September 3)
A curated selection of the northwest suburb’s top burger chefs will duke it out at Buffalo Creek’s first annual Burger Throw-Down on September 3. From 1 to 4 p.m. outside in the biergarten, the culinary gauntlet will be thrown down when five outstanding pro burger chefs fire up their grills and compete for bragging rights to the coveted Burger Belt and cash prizes. Yes, Burger Belt! Winners will be determined by the public and a panel of prominent judges. Each $20 ticketholder receives samples from all five smash burger contestants as well as eligibility for giveaways and door prizes. Ice cold BCB beer will be flowing while live music on the main stage sets a vibey tone and MC Biker Dude presides over the ceremonies. Burger Throw-Down tickets can be purchased at www.buffalocreekbrewing.com.
Oktoberfest (September 29, 30 and October 1)
Buffalo Creek taps directly into its German heritage when it hosts its annual Oktoberfest September 29 through October 1. Always the highlight of the season, this family-friendly festival that attracted a record 5,000-plus people last year features indoor and outdoor festivities throughout the brewery’s German-themed taproom and two acres of sprawling biergarten and giant tented pavilions. Besides traditional Oktoberfest beer and food, the free fest features a curated selection of musicians helping set the boisterous mood with traditional Oktoberfest Oompah music. Meanwhile, guests will also enjoy traditional games and contests like Stein Holding, Barrel Rolling, Hammerschlagen, and new this year — Best Looking Legs in Laderhosen or Dirndl.
