Located in the heart of downtown Bellaire, Michigan, Short’s Brewing was established in 2004 by Joe Short. He is instantly recognizable from his excellent mustache, which you can see in the video above. In 2009, Short’s began keg and bottle distribution via its Elk Rapids, Michigan, production facility. In the video, Joe Short gives a tour of this awesome location, which has a great view of Lake Michigan.
“I want to give you an insider’s look at how we make our magic here in Elk Rapids — from the pub, which you’ve seen before, which is where we start the process, to this over here in Elk Rapids where we scale it,” says Short in the video.
Joe Short brings his usual good-natured goofiness to this 20-minute tour of the production facility and the Pull Barn taproom, which starts with the “crap” in the backyard and this excellent Conan-adorned tank. “Sometimes making magic has no formula,” explains Short. The tour takes viewers through the milling room, brewhouse, cellar (including the big fermentation room), quality control, reception, breakroom, laboratory, packaging hall (a new packer is currently being installed), warehousing and Pull Barn taproom. The tour is great if you’re a gear geek. Short shows off multistory fermenters, processing kettle, blender, pasteurizer, centrifuge, canning lines, case erectors and beyond.
Short’s Brewing is known widely for its great craft beer brands including Soft Parade, Local’s Light and Huma Lupa Licious and its non-alcoholic sparkling hop water Thirst Mutilator. Now, learn more about the brewery in the video above.
