MadTree Brewing Co. is once again making waves in the Cincinnati area with the announcement of its third location — awesomely called MadTree Parks & Rec — set to open in spring 2025. This new site will be nestled within the vibrant Summit Park in Blue Ash, marking another milestone in MadTree’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
Breathing new life into old spaces
In classic MadTree fashion, the new Parks & Rec location will transform an existing 15,000-sq-ft airplane hangar into a lively indoor/outdoor restaurant and DORA destination — designated outdoor refreshment area. This repurposing project continues MadTree’s tradition of sustainability by giving new life to old spaces, aligning perfectly with the brewery’s environmental ethos. From the press release:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the Blue Ash community and an extension of Summit Park. This location truly delivers on MadTree’s mission of connecting people to nature and each other,” says Co-Founder Brady Duncan. “Working with the City and the Parks team has been such a rewarding way to grow a public/private partnership.”
A natural partnership
The synergy between MadTree and Blue Ash is palpable. Brian Kruse, director of Blue Ash Parks and Recreation, underscores this connection:
“The relationship with MadTree is a natural one that aligns with the community vitality efforts of Summit Park. The foundation of what MadTree is all about as a company fits perfectly in a park setting.”
A hub of innovation and inclusion
MadTree Parks & Rec is set to be a hub of innovation, sustainability, and inclusion. The location aims for LEED Silver certification and will feature a spacious taproom, a solarium, and an expansive outdoor beer garden and recreation area. Key highlights include a giant tree sculpture, living walls, a refurbished camper “campground” area, games and an outdoor playscape for kids. Rhiannon Hoeweler, MadTree VP of experience and impact, emphasizes the thoughtful design.
“It was really important to us to design this space as thoughtfully and inclusively as possible. We continue to learn from our current locations, and we’re building those learnings into Blue Ash to make Parks & Rec the best space possible.”
The facility will cater to everyone, with accessible seating, a lowered bar for wheelchair access, a calming room, an adult changing table and many vegan and gluten-free menu options.
A space for every occasion
Like their Oakley and Alcove locations, MadTree Parks & Rec will feature two larger private event spaces available for weddings, business meetings, fundraisers, or any special occasion. With the space already booking events in advance of its opening, the excitement is real. MadTree’s team will also grow by nearly 100 employees with the opening of the new location, allowing them to increase its community volunteer hours and environmental initiatives, such as planting more trees throughout Cincinnati.
Continued growth and commitment
MadTree Brewing is also expanding its flagship Oakley location by renovating and taking over operations of the previously occupied Catch-A-Fire Pizza. The kitchen, set to reopen in 2024, will continue to offer pizza alongside an expanded menu. This renovation includes improved accessibility and new technology for seamless mobile ordering.
MadTree’s journey from a garage brewery to a B Corp and a leader in sustainability and community engagement is a testament to its vision and dedication. With the new Parks & Rec location, the Ohio beer brand is poised to connect even more people to nature and each other — one beer at a time.
