Craft beer guild commercial during the Super Bowl? It’s a possibility

The Super Bowl, along with being the biggest sporting and TV event of the year, is the ultimate commercial showcase. It’s basically a cliché now for people to watch the Super Bowl “just for the commercials,” and really, the marketing arms of Anheuser-Busch InBev and MillerCoors helped push sentiment that way with some entertaining campaigns over the years.

But this year craft beer might crash the Big Beer marketing party. The Michigan Brewers Guild is still hanging tough in the Small Business Big Game contest, hosted by Intuit, where small businesses tell their story and work their way through months of public voting and private selections in order to win a 30 second commercial during the Super Bowl. Obviously, winning is a huge deal. Some numbers from Intuit:

Every year, some of the world’s biggest brands pay top dollar to feature their brand during the Big Game. Getting a commercial is highly competitive, and for good reason. The live TV audience on game day has reached upwards of 121 million viewers! Because of the high demand, the commercials that run are usually for huge national corporations, but this year, your small business could be among them.

The spot would just be for Michigan craft  beer, but rising tides lift all beer boats. This 30 seconds would be another standout moment in the slow and steady rise of craft beer in the national consciousness.
