Beau’s All Natural Brewing is busy ramping up for the next season, welcoming the return of its fall seasonal beer Night Märzen. Beginning this week, the Oktoberfest style lager will be available at select Liquor Control Board Ontario (LCBO) locations throughout Ontario. Last Thursday, Beau’s also released the latest beer in its Pro-Am Series called The Spruce Moose. The American Pale Ale spruce beer is available while quantities last at the brewery and through Beau’s Ottawa-based home delivery service BYBO.
Night Märzen is an orange-copper colored Oktoberfest Lager. Night Märzen is based on a traditional German style that would be lagered in cellars through the summer and then released for Oktoberfest celebrations in the fall. Keeping with tradition, Night Märzen is available just in time for Beau’s Oktoberfest — the brewery’s fifth annual signature fundraising event taking place in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, on October 4 and 5.
The fall seasonal is Beau’s only regularly produced lager and features a bready malt backbone that is complemented by a firm hop presence.
“Our Night Märzen is essentially a throwback version of the Märzen style. It features a greater intensity of flavor, as well as a deeper and darker malt character than some paler contemporary versions of the style,” explained Beau’s Brew Master Matthew O’Hara. The Oktoberfest Lager pairs well with traditional Oktoberfest fare such as pretzels with mustard.
The Spruce Moose is the eighth release in the Beau’s Pro-Am Series; beer recipes developed by amateur brewers, and then scaled up for a full-batch at Beau’s. The American Pale Ale is a 6.2 percent deep copper-colored beer featuring an addition of more than 60 kilograms of spruce tips hand-harvested from the wild. It has a clean, mellow malt character that is complemented by zesty, piney hops. The Spruce Moose was brewed with Patrick Boisvenue, winner of the 2012 members of Barleyment Beau’s Oktoberfest Homebrew Competition and collaborator to the award-winning Burnt Rock Vanilla Porter.
Presented in Beau’s signature 600-ml bottle, Night Märzen is available beginning this week at select LCBO locations, select restaurants and pubs, the brewery retail store and through the Ottawa-based home delivery service BYBO (www.bybo.ca) for a retail price of $4.35. The Spruce Moose is available in 600-ml bottles for a retail price of $7.85 and can be purchased at the brewery retail store and through the Ottawa-based home delivery service BYBO.
