Hershey, Pa.’s Tröegs Independent Brewing and New York’s Sloop Brewing Company have collaborated on the Sloop John T double IPA. This is part of Tröegs’ Collaboration Beer Series for 2024.
“Collaborating with other breweries is a great way to branch out and learn from each another,” says Tröegs co-founding brother and brewmaster John Trogner. “We’re constantly looking for new, creative ways to work with essentially four main ingredients. It helps give us a unique perspective on some things we might take for granted, like ingredient selection and brewing techniques.”
The beer’s recipe takes cues from Tröegs’ Perpetual IPA, the best-selling craft beer brand in Pennsylvania according to current Circana data, and Sloop’s flagship Juice Bomb Hazy IPA, one of the most sought-after IPAs in New York.
Featuring a hop combination of Citra, Columbus, and Lotus, Sloop John T boasts notes of sweet citrus fruit and mixed berry.
“It’s always great to share ideas with other people who are equally as passionate about the craft beer industry as we are,” says Justin Taylor, Chief Product Officer of Sloop Brewing Company. “With Perpetual being such a prominent brand in Pennsylvania, we felt we should draw inspiration from our flagship hazy IPA, Juice Bomb. We’re very excited for this beer to hit the market!”
Previous beers in the Tröegs Collaboration Beer Series include Foraging for Clouds with Warwick Farm Brewing; Brothers Gotta Hug with Tonewood Brewing; Adventure Was Promised with Dewey Beer Company; and Storm the Field, brewed for the inaugural Hoppy Valley Brewers Festival in State College, PA.
