PakTech, the innovative packaging firm that works with lots of craft brewers, has achieved a significant milestone with the APR Design for Recyclability Recognition for its four-pack and six-pack 202 Standard Can Carriers, bestowed by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR). This recognition serves as a third-party validation that PakTech’s products align with the highest standards of recyclability as outlined in the APR Design Guide for Plastics Recyclability. This guide is a cornerstone resource for understanding the design features crucial for enhancing the recyclability of plastic products within the North American recycling system.
This APR recognition follows a detailed engineering assessment ensuring that PakTech’s designs are technically compatible with current plastic recycling processes, affirming the product’s recyclability. Previously, PakTech’s carriers had also received recyclability certifications in Australia and the European Union, bolstering international customer confidence in their sustainability commitments. From the press release:
“Our products are a second-life product, where we have gone through extensive measures to design and develop products made exclusively with post-consumer recycled HDPE plastic derived from consumer waste. This reduces the depletion of fossil fuels, keeps plastic from being waste, provides the lowest possible carbon footprint, and contributes to a better environment for future generations,” said Gary Panknin, Sustainability Officer at PakTech. “The APR Recognition validates that not only are PakTech products part of the circular economy by keeping valuable materials in reuse, but are designed for recyclability where the material can be again collected and recycled for further reuse into existing end markets. You can’t get much better than that!”
Headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, PakTech is taking an innovative approach to multi-pack product handles, providing easy-to-use, minimal, and fully recyclable HDPE solutions across the food, beverage, and consumer goods industries. PakTech is certainly big with craft brewers
“APR congratulates PakTech for taking action to improve the recyclability of their packaging and taking the steps to receive APR Design for Recyclability Recognition,” said Steve Alexander, APR president and CEO. “Recyclable packaging means less waste, more efficient use of limited natural resources, and more high-quality post-consumer resin (PCR) for new products.”
