Trends in the beer market this year include more non-alcoholic options and a return to lagers. The through line here is easier drinking, both in terms of ABV and flavor profile. Looking to pioneer a new direction in this moderation niche is Dad Strength Brewing, the first brewery in the United States solely dedicated to producing mid-strength beers — those with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 2.5 – 2.9%.
Dad Strength Brewing is the brainchild of Ryan Kutscher and Craig Carey, two old friends and new dads who understand the desire for a quality beer that fits into a balanced lifestyle. “I can’t drink like I used to, but I still love craft beer,” says Kutscher.
“There’s the fast-growing non-alcoholic category, which is too low, and the regular 5 – 9% craft category, which is too high,” adds Carey. “Customers looking for moderation want something in between. Thanks to Dad Strength, they have it.”
The brewery’s flagship beer, Dad Strength IPA, is 2.9% ABV and developed in collaboration with the World Beer Cup Gold Medal-winning brewers at Atlas Brew Works. The West Coast-style IPA packs super assertive flavor derived from El Dorado and Mosaic hops. Available now in Washington, DC, and for online orders for DC residents, this innovative IPA promises to deliver all the taste of a traditional craft beer without the high alcohol content.
The Dad Strength IPA is a testament to the founders’ commitment to quality and flavor. Kutscher notes, “Consumers who’ve grown accustomed to that west coast, piney, grapefruity flavor will be pleasantly surprised when they taste Dad Strength IPA, and the next morning they’ll be pleasantly surprised again.”
