Yakima Chief Hop’s new HyperBoost product increases aromas and yields

Yakima Chief Hops (YCH) continues to boost new products. In April of 2023, we saw the launch of DynaBoost — a flowable, variety-specific hop extract. Now, YCH’s renowned hop innovation team have just rolled out HyperBoost. This brewer’s new best friend is designed to jazz up craft beer aroma while boosting yield. Formerly masquerading in trials as YCH 701, HyperBoost (much better name) has emerged from YCH’s R&D labs as its latest I-gotta-try-that product. Also, its branding is real trippy.

With its roots deep in the fertile soils of Yakima Valley, YCH has always been at the forefront of hop technology. HyperBoost is its latest. Most brewers are using HyperBoost in the fermenter as an active or post-fermentation dry hop addition, but it can also be used in the whirlpool. This concentrated hop oil extract is produced via a novel supercritical extraction technique. Intended to amplify hop aromatics and increase yield, HyperBoost excels at adding hop aroma anywhere pellets are normally used, including cold-side applications. HyperBoost is made from single-hop varieties to deliver variety-specific aroma boosts to your finished beer.

During its rigorous testing phase, HyperBoost was put to the test by 68 breweries across 21 countries, receiving glowing reviews for its effectiveness. From the press release:

What makes HyperBoost stand out? Its supercritical CO2 extraction technique, which concentrates hop oils at an impressive 40 to 70 percent, ensures that every drop is packed with variety-specific aroma that survives right into your glass. Currently, HyperBoost is available in varieties like Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic, packaged in convenient 100-g and 1-kg aluminum bottles.

YHC also offers DynaBoost, which sets itself apart as a flowable, variety-specific hop extract. It’s designed for whirlpool use, where it can be used to generate true-to-type hop aroma attributes. DynaBoost’s key strength is that this product will easily flow at room temperature with no hot water bath required. Used as a hassle-free replacement for T-90 pellets in the whirlpool, this highly soluble product can increase hot-side yields by up to 5 percent.
