The Craft Maltsters Guild is committed to providing equitable access to education and opportunities in the craft malt industry to anyone interested. In 2024, the Guild will offer scholarships for both in-person and virtual attendance to the Craft Malt Conference (MaltCon2024) scheduled for February 23-24, 2024, at UC Davis, California.
Two in-person scholarships will be available and will include free registration to the conference in Maine ($775 value, this includes some meals), plus a $1000 stipend to assist with travel expenses. Along with the in-person opportunities, there are three virtual scholarships to be had.
All scholarship recipients will also receive a complimentary one-year Individual Membership ($150 value) with the Guild. With this membership, recipients will be able to continue their craft malt education throughout the year by accessing our extensive video and webinar archive, as well as attending upcoming educational webinars and joining in discussions on Guild member forums about craft malt-related topics.
Eligibility: This scholarship is intended to provide online educational opportunities to individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, and disabilities. To be eligible for this opportunity, you must identify as a member of one or more of these groups.

Formed in 2013 by eight craft malthouses, the Craft Maltsters Guild emphasizes quality and craftsmanship as a requirement for success. The Guild’s missions is to promote and sustain the tradition of craft malting in North America, provide services and resources to the Association’s members, and uphold the highest quality and safety standards for Craft Maltsters. Craft Malt is defined as follows:
- Small: A Member Malthouse produces between 5 metric tons (5.5 US tons) to 10,000 metric tons (11,000 US tons) per year.
- Local: Over 50% of grains are grown within a 500-mile radius of the Member Malthouse.
- Independent: Each Member Malthouse must be independently owned by a 76% majority of ownership.
