Second Chance Beer Co. will celebrate its eighth anniversary with the release of Dawg Daze West Coast IPA on Saturday, Sept. 9, made in collaboration with San Clemente’s Artifex Brewing Company. Dawg Daze uses a blend of Citra, Mosaic, and Strata hops.
“This very modern West Coast IPA is perhaps Brewmaster Marty Mendiola’s best work to date,” said Second Chance Co-Founder and CEO Virginia Morrison. “It was a labor of love for him, as is every Second Chance beer, but this one is extra special because it celebrates an important milestone for the brewery as a whole and the professional and personal growth of all the individuals who have made Second Chance so successful all these years.”
Tickets are available on eventbrite here, with “early dawg” pricing of $55 through August 15. Part of the proceeds from the anniversary beer-and-wine pairing dinner, like all Second Chance events, will benefit local dog rescues like The Animal Pad and Second Chance Dog Rescue. Since its 2015 opening, Second Chance Beer Company has donated more than $400,000 to local dog rescues and has facilitated new homes for more than 160 dogs through adoption events at its tasting rooms.
Allagash, Montclair Brewery team up on Verb
Allagash Brewing Co. and New Jersey’s Montclair Brewery, teamed up to develop and launch a crushable new beer: Verb (4.5% ABV). A citrusy Saison, the beer is named for its signature ingredient – Lemon Verbena – and for “verb” as a term for action. The collaborative, new, easy-to-drink beer is all about the action of bringing people together.
In the spirit of bringing people together, Verb will first be poured at the annual Barrel & Flow Fest, the country’s first Black arts and craft beer festival, on August 12 in Pittsburgh. The stage for the Allagash collaboration was set when Leo and Allagash Founder Rob Tod met at the 2022 Barrel & Flow Fest.
Verb may be a new release, but the seeds for this Lemon Verbena Saison were planted when Montclair Brewery co-owners Leo Sawadogo and Denise Ford Sawadogo traveled to the South of France early this year.
“I’m really interested in working with unique and unexpected ingredients, and Lemons were growing wild all throughout the South of France. This definitely caught my attention. I had the opportunity to learn more about Fenton Lemon, in addition to Lemon Verbena, from local growers and it really stuck with me,” said Leo Sawadogo.
Indeed Brewing adds delish Session IPA to portfolio
Indeed Brewing Co. released Modern Age Session IPA, packed with sweet and citrusy notes of orange, pineapple, mango, and berries. A subtle malt profile lets Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, and Strata hop superstars shine bright in this 3.8% ABV, medium-bodied, low-calorie brew.
“There’s few hoppy session beers that we love to drink — Size 4 from Steel Toe and Founders All Day IPA are the two that come to mind — and we’re excited to add a really awesome beer to that category, “says Ryan Bandy, Director of Experience, Indeed Brewing Company. “It took us a few different batches of R&D to get this one right, but the final liquid is delicious. I love the hop profile with the classic combo of Citra and Mosaic and then adding newer hops like Galaxy and Strata. The brewers found a way to have it drink closer to a 6% IPA, with a nice mouthfeel and a little bitterness.”
Weldwerks readies Mutinee’s Matcha Milk for Monster Day
WeldWerks Brewing Co. has some noteworthy beers on the horizon, including a Mezcal Barrel-Aged Imperial Sour and a collaboration with Cohesion Brewing. But this week we’ll focus on this awesome release in honor of Monster Day because, well, look at that photo!
Every year famed prop makers Distortions Unlimited creates a new Greeley Gremlin for Monster Day on August 12, an annual Downtown Greeley event that includes music, art, food, entertainment, and costumes that celebrate all things “monster.” Inspired by this year’s Gremlin green-eyed monster, WeldWerks decided to create a green sour that is brewed with Matcha tea and honeydew syrup. This 5.7% green-hued beer will be available on Friday, August 11.
Pure Project brings back Euphorik with Mangoes
Pure Project is a sustainably focused brewery in San Diego. Euphorik is Pure Project‘s take on the American Wild Ale. Euphorik with Mangoes made its debut back in 2016 as the inaugural brew of our ongoing “Euphorik” series — and after seven years, we are thrilled to learn they are bringing it back.
This second batch includes 1,400 pounds of organic mangoes from Mexico, which were added to the base beer after it aged for 10 months in formerly pinot noir French oak barrels. The beer then went on to rest for an additional five months in bottles, forming an even deeper complexity. Euphorik with Mangoes gleams with a medley of flavors, including mango juice, preserved lemon, and hints of white bread, which all blend together beautifully on the palate.
OMF brings back medal-winner for August
Our Mutual Friend Brewing Company (OMF) announced its August beer lineup (shown above), and our fav is Biere Ovale, a mixed culture foeder-aged Saison. Available Saturday, August 19, Biere Ovale received a GABF silver medal in 2021 and 2022 and now, the delicately crafted bottle-conditioned beer is ready to crack open.
“Biere Ovale is absolutely one of my favorite beers we make,” says OMF Head Brewer and Co-Owner Jan Chodkowski. “It’s equally complex and easy drinking with the perfect balance of acidity and funk. It only comes around once a year so get it while you can!”
