Montucky Cold Snacks has one of the best names in beer. It’s a fun lifestyle craft brand that’s based on two core products — a basic lager and a simple grapefruit seltzer — with branding and pricing that competes with classic value beers from Busch to Natural Light. Here’s Jeremy Gregory, cofounder of Montucky Cold Snacks, explaining the idea to us last year.
Visually, we’re fun, bright, retro, and irreverent, And our light lager follows this mindset in flavor profile, as does our voice and subsequent lifestyle[s] we portray across our different platforms. This has attracted employees who also align with that vibe. That energy flows organically out to customers who in turn reinvent and reinforce these elements in their own way with us. It’s still a lot of work, but it cuts the guess work out, if everyone already is in the flow.
Let’s flow back to March when the Montucky Mascot Contest was announced. The Bozeman, Montana, brand invited contestants to simply create a 30 sec video showing and telling Montucky why they should be the first-ever official mascot. The glorious video above is the result. After reviewing hundreds of submissions and dwindling selections down to 12 semi-finalists, Montucky Cold Snacks has announced Salt Lake City’s John Gutz as the winner of its debut 2023 mascot competition. It’s not hard to see why. From the press release:
“I entered the competition because I am a happy outgoing person that loves to share excitement with others and make people laugh. I wanted to do a funny video and this was a good reason. Also, I LOVE Montucky Cold Snacks!!!” says John Gutz. “To be the Montucky Mascot means everything. Portraying the brand with full authenticity and excitement. The Mascot should be fun, outgoing, and personable, someone that people can absorb the excitement and joy that the mascot puts off.”
As the first-ever official Mascot for the company, Gutz will his face plastered on 100,000s of Montucky beer cans dropping this fall. I expect Montucky sales to rocket. Also, Gutz is now expected to bring his positive enthusiasm to a series of Mascot duties, which appear to include a local liquor-store signing tour, hosting NASCAR parties and the first pitch for Reno Aces’ opening game. Here’s a list of everything in Gutz’s near future. Congrats, big guy.
