You probably know Steve Hindy as the co-founder and president of Brooklyn Brewery, but before that life he was an AP war correspondent in the Middle East during the ’80s, covering stories like the assassination of President Sadat. Apparently, while traveling the region, he met some American diplomats from Saudi Arabia, where Islamic law outlaws buying alcohol. In this interview uploaded by 4traders.com, Hindy says these diplomats made beer in their homes.
Yeah actually I ran into American diplomats who had been in Saudi Arabia where they have Islamic law, no alcohol, and these guys all make their own beer at home. If you know anyone who has lived in Saudi Arabia, they’ll tell you they’ve had homebrewed beer or homemade wine or whiskey, yeah.
Watch the rest of the video above. Hindy is always an interesting interview.
