Hey Thinkin’ and Drinkin’ fans! It’s that time of the week again. Almost quittin’ time! Friday is when the Craft Brewing Business (CBB) crew kicks back with a couple of craft cold ones and reflects on the stories of the week. What we liked, what we learned and what we thought was just plain cool.
Did you have a favorite story from the week? Any of our features catch your attention? Well, pull up a seat, crack open a crafty beverage and join the conversation. We love hearing from our readers. So, after reading what we thought about this week in news, be sure to sound off in the comments below to let us know what you think and, more importantly, what you’re drinking. Cheers!
Blondes have more fun: Victory Brewing, Widmer Brothers Brewing talk summer seasonals
Jason Morgan, editor:
A return to our Beer of the Month feature! Of all the CBB crew, I’m the one that tends to enjoy blonde ales the most, which is strange because I used to be down on them. Well, I used to get down on most beers that weren’t stouts or porters. But I’ve turned over a new leaf! I was excited to read about how Victory and Widmer Brothers approached their summertime blondes. It’s always interesting to see how brewers attempt to capture the feeling of a season in a bottle. After reading the article and trying both brews, I’d say they were both successful.

Growlette: The 32-ounce growler
Chris Crowell, editor:
I know we just posted this story today, but I find it worth talking about. Kind of like Jason’s obsession with beer pouches [Editor’s Note: Pouches!], I’m intrigued by this mini-growler and how it will either catch on, fizzle out or be the subject of some new legislation/regulation in our state. The future of the concept aside, I’m casting my vote in favor of the growlette. I’m always in favor of finding new ways to package/deliver/enjoy beer, and it seems like a 32-ounce growler fills a void that exists in the market, and may act as yet another gateway to encourage craft beer consumers and casual drinkers alike to take a flier on a new draft beer around town, without feeling like they are “stuck” with a jug full of beer they might not want. Anyway, worth monitoring. What do you guys think? Yay or nay on the growlette? Anyone using them out there?
