San Diego breweries’ 5th-Annual Pucks & Pints Charity Hockey Game and Festival is scheduled for April 8 at Pechanga Arena and neighboring Modern Times’ The Lomaland Fermentorium. This is one of craft beer’s great community / charity / sporting events. It includes:
- a hockey game with San Diego craft brewers, followed by
- a beer festival from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., followed by
- a San Diego Gulls game.
“Pucks & Pints originated with colleagues from Societe, Stone, and Thorn – all long-time hockey players who wanted to combine their passion for craft brewing and hockey to provide charitable good,” said event co-founder Todd Webster, who serves on Thorn Brewing’s Board of Directors. “What has transpired with the event’s growth in a short time is amazing. The excitement and energy have grown to an entirely new level. The brewing community and our sponsors continue to rally to support our worthy charities that are so critical to the communities of San Diego.”
Tickets, which include entry to all three segments of the day, are $60 and can be purchased here. All proceeds benefit four local non-profit organizations: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, Emilio Nares Foundation, Resque Ranch, and San Diego Brewers Guild.
Last year’s Pucks & Pints event raised more than $20,000.
Who is playing? Rosters are being finalized for the brewers game, but confirmed players include representatives from Ballast Point, Burgeon Beer Company, Harland Brewing, Kings & Convicts, Modern Times, Rouleur Brewing, Societe Brewing, Stone Brewing, and Thorn Brewing. Teams will be announced on March 25, when jerseys will be revealed as well.
What is pouring? A limited-release collaboration beer is being created for the event: Pucks & Pints Session Cold IPA, which will have a 4.5-4.7% alcohol by volume (ABV) and tasting notes of pineapple, orange, citrus peel, grapefruit, and stone fruit. Stone Brewing is serving as the host, and the other breweries involved are Ballast Point, Harland, Kings & Convicts, Modern Times, Plan 9 Alehouse, Societe, and Thorn.
“As a local hockey player and long-time craft beer professional and enthusiast, I couldn’t be more excited about our involvement in this event,” said Modern Times Vice President of Supply Chain and Logistics Justin Brunda. “With our Lomaland taproom being across the street from Pechanga Arena, we thought it was a great opportunity to share some of our resources and space, support our local community, and share in this effort with our San Diego beer brothers and sisters.”
