There’s a lot of beer news surrounding Cincinnati these days. Fifty West Brewing Co. just announced the reopening of its esteemed brewpub in Columbia Township, which is in the greater Cincinnati area (dig the photos). Cleveland’s Saucy Brew Works recently announced the acquisition of Cartridge Brewing in Maineville, Ohio, which sits outside of Cincinnati, nearish to Kings Island, nestled along the banks of the Little Miami River. There was that Cincinnati episode of Next Exit, the YouTube beer and travel show produced by Untapped, which was excellent. Enjoy…
But the most exciting recent news for me personally, having grown up in Cincinnati, was the announcement that Braxton Brewing Co., Graeter’s Ice Cream and Dewey’s Pizza — all frequent collaborators over the years — are creating a space together in Union, Ky., in 2023. That’s an amazing combo of food and drink. Dewey’s makes the most unbelievable pies — Tito Santana! — hand tossing the dough right in front of you while serving an excellent selection of craft beer. Graeter’s has been making addictive and indulgent ice cream in Cincinnati since 1870, and Braxton Brewing has quickly become one of the area’s top beer brands with its impressive range of styles from its excellent premium lager Garage Beer to its impressive barrel-aged brands (stouts, saisons and ever onward).
According to Jake Rouse, cofounder and CEO of Braxton Brewing Co., via our previous interview:
The capacity of the actual location will be about the same size of Braxton’s Covington taproom — about 6,500 sq ft. We will also be producing beer at our Union taproom and using the location to create unique styles of beer on site.
There’s more, and it also involves Braxton Brewing, which is headquartered in Covington, Ky., across the river from Cincinnati, with three main locations right now (and these, ahem, cool igloo rooftop pods for the winter). The brand just announced it will be opening a taproom in Concourse A of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) this spring. Construction has already begun, and visitors will be able to enjoy a 1,500-sq-ft space, which will probably look a lot like the photos in this post. When I was a kid, no one ever flew out of CVG because it was so weirdly expensive, but today it’s apparently one of the most affordable airports for departures. So drink up!
From the press release:
“We expect our passenger volumes to grow in the coming years, and with more travelers, comes the need for more food and beverage options,” said Candace McGraw, CEO, CVG. “We are pleased to welcome Braxton to CVG because we know travelers like to see and experience local flavors and brands in the airport.”
“Creating a unique experience for our taproom guests is something we love doing. Now, with the addition of our taproom in CVG, that’s an experience we’ll be able to create for both locals and those traveling through,” says Jake Rouse, Co-Founder and CEO of Braxton Brewing Co. “It’s important to us that this new taproom, just like our others, be a place where visitors can enjoy a craft beer and truly ‘lift one to life’.”
The menu and food and beverage options will be announced later, according to the release, but visitors to the taproom will be able to experience signature craft beers from Braxton, as well as seasonal offerings. This addition at CVG will further solidify Braxton as a greater Cincinnati staple. I’ll give you an update next time I fly into Cincinnati, but Braxton is definitely a brand to keep an eye on.
