Behind every beer brand you drink is an impressive team of beer professionals — brewers, barkeeps, bussers, canners, sales reps, CEOs, COOs, lab techs, interns and everyone from marketing and HR teams to packaging and restaurant workers. “Beer professional” encapsulates a wide variety of jobs and skill sets, so those interested in working in brewing might wonder what the heck all those jobs exactly are. Well, here are some interviews with some beer pros explaining those jobs.
I noticed over the past couple of months, global craft beer brand BrewDog, which has its American base in Columbus, Ohio, has been releasing an interesting video series on its YouTube channel called Meet the Team. Example: Let’s meet Jackson (no last names used). He’s a line runner, but what exactly does a line runner do?
As a line runner, Jackson makes sure the filler line runs smoothly and efficiently. He’s an expert at identifying problems and fixing those problems with efficiency. He also trains other employees to do this. Jackson gives us the example of that pesky case packer not folding and/or gluing the boxes correctly. Could it be the glue shooter? Compressor box? WHY WON’T YOU JUST WORK!?!
Jackson’s education is in engineering, and he worked in oil and gas before joining BrewDog. It’s nice to get to know the people behind these beer brands and understand what exactly they do. These videos are great vignettes about the variety of jobs that make craft beer possible. Enjoy some more…
