At drinktec in Germany this year, Velox showcased a high-volume direct-to-shape digital decoration solution . Velox is targeting craft breweries in the United States with this concept, but most specifically co-packers, packaging wholesalers/brokers, fillers and big craft beer brands.
“Our innovative approach to digital printing enables advanced, direct-to-shape digital decoration of beverage cans for various applications where shrink sleeves and labels were, until today, the only alternative,” says Marian Cofler, CEO and Co-founder. “These include shorter analog printing runs, ad hoc runs, promotional marketing campaigns and shorter lead time.”
The direct to shape printing creates a seamless 360° decoration (that includes the chime and neck area) and includes selective digital embellishments, photorealistic images, extremely wide color gamut and highly opaque selective white for substrate and color interactions (metallic effect or completely blocking the substrate).
At drinktec, Velox showed a range of digital decoration solutions for necked and straight-wall beverage cans running at a speed of up to 500 cans per minute. Velox’s technology key attributes include:
- Up to 14 colors and embellishments, a wide color gamut, accurate pantone matching and unique decoration features.
- Quick and easy setup time for any print quantity, increasing efficiency and productivity.
- Elimination of shrink sleeves and labels, allowing on-demand decoration and shorter time to market.
- Direct-to-shape printing saving hundreds of tons of plastics by replacing shrink sleeves and labels and reducing waste and inventory.
