Shmaltz Brewing Co., renowned contract brewer in upstate New York, opened up its very own production brewery 10 minutes north of its other facilities. The new 20,000-square-foot facility is filled out with a custom-made brewhouse and manufacturing tanks from Oregon’s JV Northwest, and a bottling line from well-respected Italian experts SBC/BC International.
For 16 years, Shmaltz championed contract brewing and developed a dedicated cult following for their award-winning HE’BREW – The Chosen Beers and Coney Island Craft Lagers. Breaking company tradition, this new production brewery is a 50-barrel (bbl) brewhouse capable of 20,000 bbls of annual capacity. The company will be able to package 12- and 22-ounce bottles and kegs of their diverse core and seasonal favorites. Several new releases and collaborations are on tap for 2013, and Shmaltz will continue their acclaimed barrel-aging projects, using a current inventory of more than 300 bourbon, rye whiskey and tequila barrels.
The official christening of the new facility is set to commence July 7 and include vintage, barrel-aged and rare Shmaltz libations, like the special, one-day-only release of the Shmaltz Black IPA: DEATH OF A CONTRACT BREWER (7 malts, 7 hops, 7 percent ABV). Others joining in the fun include Smuttynose, Peekskill, Kelso, Empire, Mendocino and more.
Following the opening event, craft beer enthusiasts will be able to take advantage of Shmaltz’s 1,700-square-foot tasting room throughout the year.
