As part of its year-long “Mother Nature, Let’s Do This!” initiative challenging folks everywhere to get outside, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery teams up with Priority Bicycles, an independent, low-maintenance bicycle brand, to launch a custom Dogfish Head bicycle and host a multi-day event at the brewery’s harbor-front hotel, the Dogfish INN, in Lewes, Delaware.
“I have always believed that one of the best ways to get out and explore Mother Nature’s splendors is by bike,” said Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Founder & Brewer. “You’re not only earning those beer calories, but you are doing your part to help keep our planet beautiful: calf-muscle-powered travel over carbon-powered wins the day. That’s why we have always kept a stash a Priority Bicycles beach cruisers onsite at our Dogfish INN, so guests can borrow them, check out coastal Delaware’s natural wonders and then, reward themselves by cracking open a cold one.”
Folks visiting the Dogfish INN for the Dogfish Head X Priority Bicycles Weekend can expect a whole slew of off-centered goodness, including a “Fireside Chat” with Sam Calagione and members of the Priority Bicycles team, a guided bike ride along coastal Delaware’s Junction & Breakwater Trail with stops at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats and Revelation Craft Brewing Company in Rehoboth, and the release of In Tandem, a limited-edition beer brewed in collaboration with Revelation to benefit the Sussex County Land Trust’s trailhead project.
“Collaborations are a fun way for us brewers to share our creative ideas and ‘geek out’ to craft something new,” said Patrick Staggs, Founder of Revelation Craft Brewing Company. “We first collaborated with Dogfish Head to support the Sussex County Land Trust in 2019 by brewing a different iteration of In Tandem, which makes this recreation of the beer even more special. This year, we are utilizing ingredients that are found along the amazing bike trail. Our version of In Tandem will be conditioned on the delicious prickly pear cactus fruit. And while we will use the same base recipe, Revelation and Dogfish Head are sure to release brews that are totally unique, so I encourage everyone to grab their bikes and make their way to both of our locations for a taste!
Inspired by hazy, Autumn bike rides along coastal Delaware’s trails, Dogfish Head’s version of In Tandem is an intensely flavorful IPA brewed with bright, lemony sumac and foraged pine needles. A sumptuous, 7.0% ABV sipper with mouth-watering aromas of earth and pine blended with sweet, toasty malt, it will debut at the brewery’s Off-Centered EmPOURium in Rehoboth for $17 per 4pk/16oz cans. A portion of proceeds from each 4pk sold will be donated to the Sussex County Land Trust to support the organization’s efforts to build a trailhead along the Lewes-Georgetown Bike Trail. The soon-to-be-built trailhead will not only provide more Delawareans with greater access to the trail, but it will help better connect local communities by bike.
LUKI Brewing’s brewer celebrates promotion with special beer
LUKI Brewery is debuting a special beer this week, created by newly promoted brewer (former assistant brewer) Adriana Terron. Adriana has a creative writing background but cut her teeth in craft beer ten years ago when she began homebrewing. She got to dive in professionally at LUKI Brewery where she recently completed a 12-week beer mentorship program with the Brewers Association. The program’s first cohort of 30 was selected from nearly 270 applicants. The mentorship program seeks to increase the diversity of the workforce, leadership and ownership of small and independent breweries by providing structured mentoring and advocacy.
To celebrate the completion of this program, and her recent promotion, LUKI is debuting Sippin’ Silos, a recipe created by Adriana that stems from her love of coffee beers and the warm weather. The brewery teamed up with Red Silo Coffee Roasters to provide a light and drinkable beer that has the robust flavors of berry, milk chocolate and nutty notes from Red Silo’s Ethiopian coffee beans. The cold brew was pitched into a blonde base beer to provide a refreshing beer with some complexity. ABV: 6.1%.
Allagash adds another delightful entry to line of sparkling fruited ales
Allagash Brewing Company introduced the latest addition to the Little Grove line of beers: Little Grove Freshly Pressed Apples & Cranberry. This lightly sparkling fruited ale is brewed with cranberries and blended with the juice of freshly pressed apples for a mixture of effervescence, dry apple flavor, and a hint of cranberry zing—all at 4% ABV and just 100 calories. Allagash introduced the Little Grove line of low-ABV sparkling fruited ales last fall and this new flavor will join Little Grove Blackcurrant as a year-round offering.
“We’ve always been interested in brewing a beer with freshly pressed apples,” said Rob Tod, Founder, Allagash. “With the fall season approaching—and our Little Grove beers taking advantage of the combination of beer and fruit—we took it as the perfect time to lean into these bountiful flavors. We think that both beer and cider lovers will enjoy this sparkling fruited ale.”
Little Grove Freshly Pressed Apples & Cranberry originated from Allagash’s pilot system, a program that allows any employee at Allagash to submit a concept for a beer. Since its inception in 2007, the pilot system has led to the release of countless well-loved Allagash beers. This particular pilot idea came from none other than Jason Perkins, the brewmaster at Allagash—yes, even he submits his beer ideas to be judged blind by our pilot team. “I’ve always had a passion for making my own cider,” said Perkins. “You can create some really delicious flavors pressing apples that we find locally here in Maine. And that love of making my own cider at home was the basis for this beer idea.”

Wild Leap Brew brings East and West together via IPA
Wild Leap is introducing the newest edition of the highly anticipated Coast West IPA. Coast West 2021 (10% ABV). This year’s edition is the liquid union of East and West. Wild Leap combined the soft and juicy elements of an East Coast IPA with traditional West Coast yeast and a revamped piney and resinous hop bill. Coast West is now available at retailers and the brewery.
Wild Leap’s Coast West IPA was first released in 2020. “This is our second year brewing Coast West. When we released it last year, the most common comment we heard from our customers was ‘Finally! A Wild Leap West Coast IPA!’, says Chief Brewing Officer, Chris Elliott. “Since that release we have had a lot of feedback asking for us to release it again, so we did. This time we changed up the hop bill to make it a little more piney and dank, and we have new artwork on the can as well.”
Monday Night Brewing gets prehistoric
Because current events continue to disappoint, Monday Night Brewing is stepping back into the prehistoric era, where the brewery’s favorite apex predator roamed free and destroyed anything in its path. Monday Night Brewing celebrated Dino Week with appropriately-themed movies in their taprooms in both Atlanta and Birmingham. But the true special feature will be their latest beer release, Death Raptor.
Death Raptor is a Killer IPA that emerged from the Jurassic Jungle of Juice with the vicious intent of slaying your palate. Gratuitously hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe Cyro, and El Dorado, this primordial IPA features zesty, citrus fruit aroma that lures you into a glassful of sweet, sweet surrender. Flavors of tangerine and grapefruit mingle with the malt backbone of pilsner, oat, and wheat. At 6.9% ABV, this IPA appears pleasant, but you may never escape its delicious grip.
Co-Founder Jonathan Baker says, “We’re not shy about our love of dinosaurs—some kids outgrow their obsession—we leaned harder into it. At Monday Night Garage, located in Atlanta’s historic West End, and the Social Club in Birmingham, AL, we’ve commissioned murals highlighting these ancient, carnivorous beasts. We felt it was high time to honor our favorite reptile with their own week.”
Flying Dog goes electric year-round
The big news buzzing at Maryland’s largest brewery this month is the release of a new hazy IPA called Hop Electric which is being added to Flying Dog’s year-round lineup. In support of the high-voltage beer’s release, Flying Dog has partnered with MD-based Paul Reed Smith Guitars (PRS Guitars) to create an epic customized electric guitar that one lucky consumer can win through a social media giveaway to be held in September.
Hop Electric is a supercharged hazy that thrills with an alternating current of juicy hops and tropical fruit notes. Described by Flying Dog’s brewers as more of a mix of traditional IPA and New England IPA flavor profiles, Hop Electric’s complex hop blend – which includes Galaxy, Simcoe and Mosaic hops – shines with juicy/green hop notes dominating its taste.
“A lot of hazys out there are juice-bombs that make it difficult to tell if the flavor is from the hops or the added fruit,” said Ben Clark, Brewmaster at Flying Dog Brewery. “With Hop Electric, we are making hops the star of the show again.”
Fans of fruit-forward hazys will still get a satisfying smell from the new brew, with tropical notes of guava and papaya dominating the aroma. Hop Electric carries a 6.8% ABV and 35 IBUs, with moderate bitterness, a full body and clean finish.
