Saucy Brew Works is in grow mode, despite the pandemic. The brewery opened its doors in Cleveland’s craft brew hamlet of Ohio City in 2017. Four years later, in January of 2021, the company opened its fourth location in Detroit, complementing the original W. 29th Street locale, its new Orange Village Brewpub and Coffehouse (east of Cleveland) and its Columbus Brewpub and Coffehouse. I’m not including the Vibe Garden, which is also open right now. The brewery also announced plans to build a brewpub and event center next to Topgolf in Independence, Ohio (just south of the City of Cleveland), and that’s not it.
In July 2020, Saucy opened its first Coffeehouse in Orange, Ohio. Saucy Coffee has grown to three locations including Columbus, Ohio and Detroit, with plans to introduce its signature line of packaged whole bean coffee at all Saucy locations and local grocery stores. Plus, Saucy Brew Works has partnerships with the likes of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians/Guardians and their home venues, giving the brand an impressive presence in Ohio and beyond. Consider Saucy just celebrated its four-year anniversary on July 10, 2021.
But that’s not it either. Saucy Brew Works has launched a second public crowdfunding raise with Start Engine with more grand plans for expansion. In its first round it raised $1,025,448. This second round (open right here) is to help increase capital for current and upcoming expansion projects such as that aforementioned new brewing facility in Independence and its next Brewpub and Coffeehouse set to open in Charlotte, N.C. Why a location in Charlotte? From its investor site:
We use the “pub and spoke” approach; a production facility that supplies smaller, neighborhood-oriented pubs. This is important to us for a number of reasons, and we move forward following a three-step strategy.
The first of which is…
First. We want to win in new markets, we believe that planting roots in each neighborhood leads to better traction and awareness than simply distributing beer. In doing so, we aim to amplify the communities we serve and provide unique experiences at each brewpub. We serve a variety of offerings for our beer enthusiasts, novices, and non-beer drinkers alike. As we continue to develop deep roots through our establishments and community partnerships, we will right-size our distribution to drive home the growth within that respective market, later expanding into additional cities and states.
The company also has plans for a fleet of food trucks and another brewpub location what will be chosen with investor insights. From the site:
We will continue plans to expand outside of the Midwest, and intend to provide our investors with the opportunity to provide input on such locations. We have a few options currently on the table which include Nashville, TN, Tampa, FL, Miami, FL, and Park City, UT.
The brand is definitely a Cleveland favorite, in a town that has great beer choices ranging from Great Lakes to Fat Heads. According to Information Resources Inc. (IRI) sales (grocery store sales), Saucy Brew Works is one of the top five selling brands in Cleveland, and as of June 2020, the fastest growing brand in the state of Ohio.
