As the press release says: “2020 was a dumpster fire.” I’d have to agree, but admirably brewers adapted and are still adapting, finding innovative ways to simply stay in business. Dallas-based Deep Ellum Brewing Co., which is now a part of the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective, had a busy year both thinking up new beers (the likes of Manic Confidence, Lateral Haze and DTX Golden Ale) while making a new video series with Innovation Brewer Brian Morris documenting those new releases. I’ve embedded of bunch of those below as well. Alas, the video above doesn’t really recap much, but it’s beautifully shot, has a blast’em soundtrack and made me want to drink beer and eat nachos.
Here’s a super quick recap of the brand overall: In 2011, Deep Ellum Brewing Co. set up shop in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, claiming the first craft brewery to open in Dallas in over a decade. In 2017, Deep Ellum grew 37 percent to produce more than 45,000 bbls in Texas only, with the vast majority being consumed within 20 miles of the brewery. In 2018, Deep Ellum Brewing sold to Austin-based Canarchy Craft Brewing Collective, which now houses brands like Oskar Blues, Cigar City, Perrin, Wasatch, Squatters, Three Weavers and Revitalyte (the latter an electrolyte rehydration beverage brand). In 2020, Deep Ellum Brewing Co. Founder John Reardon filed a lawsuit against CANarchy and its private equity firm Fireman Capital Partners, alleging it had failed to pay him in full for said acquisition.
It’s been quite a ride. Here are some videos!
