“Safety has always been a core value at Bell’s, and at this time more than ever we need to provide that for all our employees,” says John Mallett, director of brewing operations at Bell’s Brewery, near the end of the video above. This two minutes plus video message summarizes the forward-thinking safety measures needed in 2020’s brewing operations.
Mallett explains a number of Bell’s enhanced safety initiatives, which it communicates to its employees on a daily basis. The company has, of course, instituted effective social distancing — a 6 ft of separation rule between people. In fact, the company has moved as much staff offsite as possible. Also, no visitors are allowed, so that means the brewery has also stopped a bunch of ongoing projects. Bell’s has also posted excellent signage for meeting rooms, labs and working zones noting the allowed occupancy of that area to keep physical contact minimized.
The company is even holding doors open, so workers don’t have to grab them, and its upped its sanitizing procedures throughout its facilities. Just as important Mallett says the company has quickly enacted changes to its paid and sick time policy to allow its employees to take care of themselves and their loved ones. It’s also rearranged big events like its Oberon Release Day.
Overall, this is an excellent video and a great example that other craft breweries should copy or complement for both their safety and marketing initiatives.
