We’re always jumping over to the hops news page on the Michigan State University Extension website to find cool new content. MSU Extension is a thought leader for Great Lakes region ag commodities from corn to soybeans to hops. For the latter, the university works with the Great Lakes Hop Working Group, formed in 2016 to provide region-specific pest management support to producers in remerging hop production outside of the Pacific Northwest and support sustainable hop production in the Great Lakes region. Together, the two organizations have created the Hop Production in Midwest and Eastern North America course — an on-demand online course that is now available — and here’s a free 46-minute module because we like you.
Well, if you like more freeness, we just noticed MSU Extension released the updated “Michigan Hop Management Guide, 2020,” available to Michigan hop growers for free. Just click right here. The download includes an updated list of registered pesticides, nutrient management recommendations and a guide to seasonal pest occurrence and management activities. The 2020 edition even has some new content, including hop downy mildew management recommendations and pesticide safety info. Nice.
Here’s some other great Michigan hop info you’re going to want to sign up for. From an article by the always informative Erin Lizotta, IPM educator at MSU Extension:
As the growing season approaches, please sign up to receive MSU Extension’s Hop & Barley Production Newsletter and follow the Michigan State University Hops News Facebook page for up-to-date information.
