Here’s a list of reasons why working from home is awesome:
- Listening to music outloud instead of headphones.
- Seeing what the old people in your neighborhood are up to all day.
- Not showering.
- Having more time to chat with your volleyball with a face drawn on it.
- Avoiding a long commute/traffic/weather/the probabilities of getting into a car accident while driving 78 mph half asleep.
- The lack of small talk required just to get a drink of water.
- Putting a load of laundry in the washing machine and totally forgetting about it the rest of the day.
- Not needing to wait for other men to finish pooping so you can poop.
- Sweatpants.
- Clocking out at 3 p.m. and cracking a beer three seconds after 3 p.m.
That last one is by far the best. Here are your five beers to pretend to open at 3 p.m. but really start drinking at noon. Just keep it between us. Please send in your own beer news to [email protected].
New Holland Orange Chocolate Reserve
To satisfy ever-growing demand from craft beer enthusiasts throughout the country, New Holland Brewing Co. recently tapped new two more markets for distribution of its flagship brew — Dragon’s Milk Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout. Following a brand refresh and amidst its new ongoing storytelling project, Share A Legend, the stout has expanded into Louisiana and Arkansas, growing New Holland Brewing’s distribution footprint to 40 states. Dragon’s Milk is 11 percent alcohol by volume and was designed around the subtle oak flavors afforded by the Kentucky Bourbon barrels it’s aged within. The stout is released on draft and in single 22-oz bottles and four-packs of 12-oz bottles. Plus, each year, New Holland Brewing Co. releases four limited edition Dragon’s Milk Reserves flavors. Known for innovation and a unique twist on the traditional beverage. Currently, S’mores and Orange Chocolate can be found at retail.
pFriem Family is canning its pilsner and IPA
Oregon’s pFriem Family Brewers sent word that its IPA and Pilsner will be available in cans beginning in early March throughout Oregon and Washington. Both beers will continue to be made available on draft and in bottles. The brewery has upgraded its facility and enhanced its infrastructure to make way for canning. The team expects annual barrelage for cans to be around 5,000 bbls in 2019.
“This is the realization of a long-term dream of ours,” said Josh Pfriem, brewmaster and cofounder. “The cans will feature the pFriem bear, which has been the brewery’s mascot and a reminder to take what we do seriously, but never take ourselves too seriously. He’s also a reflection of the love we have of the outdoors and how lucky everyone at pFriem Family Brewers feels to call Hood River, Oregon, home. What better place for us to start our canning program, than with IPA and Pilsner, which are among our most popular styles. These two beers also pair best with the wintertime and summertime activities that we at the brewery love to do with a beer in hand, so it was a pretty easy choice.”
Hi-Wire Brewing puts all the words people want on this can
Hi-Wire Brewing announced its 2019 Release Calendar, with the coming year seeing many returning fan favorites and a line-up of new beers to keep things fresh and build on what was a huge 2018 from the Asheville brewery. Kicking off January Hi-Wire Brewing will be releasing three specialty beers including their fifth version of Hazy&Juicy&Hoppy&Fresh IPA dry-hopped with Mosaic and Wakatu. And as usual, it’s all in the name for this double dry-hopped New England India Pale Ale that is super hazy, juicy, chock full of bright hop aroma and silky smooth. A grip of oats and a touch of lactose rounds out this crushable, tropical IPA. This beer is available in four-packs of 16-oz cans and will see full distribution.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for Wild Leap’s new Double IPA
Wild Leap is kicking off 2019 in a delicious way by releasing a new Double IPA series called Truck Chaser. Creamsicle Double IPA is the first beer in the series, hitting the shelves the second week of January. Truck Chaser Creamsicle will be the first Wild Leap beer to be sold in four packs instead of six packs, and it will only be available in the market for a short time. Brewed with a flavor combination of ripe orange, vanilla bean and milk sugar, Creamsicle Double IPA is designed to taste like a creamsicle straight from the ice cream truck.
“We’ve had a lot of fun with this beer,” said Wild Leap Cofounder Anthony Rodriguez. “We took an indulgence of our past and brewed the flavors into a hoppy, hazy Double IPA. It wasn’t that long ago that my friends and I chased the ice cream truck, not the beer truck.”
With previous beer releases like the popular Alpha Abstraction Double IPA series, Wild Leap is well known for approachable and enjoyable craft beer. Truck Chaser Creamsicle Double IPA falls right in line with a perfect blend of hops and a creamy milkshake flavor.
Ska Brewing’s Green Silo Saison is a collaboration with Proximity Malt
As we reported last month, Ska Brewing and Proximity Malt collaborated on a Dark Rye Saison, Green Silo Saison, to recognize their partnership and is named for Ska Brewing’s new green silo filled with Proximity Malt. Ska Brewing supports Proximity Malt’s commitment to shorten supply chains by providing local, sustainable and consistently malted barley, so much so that they added a large green silo outside their tasting room to hold more Proximity Malt.
The Green Silo Saison was created by a conference call between the great minds of Ska Brewing, Proximity Malt and Steve Dresler — a retired brewmaster from Sierra Nevada. Dave Kuske, Proximity Malt’s VP of Operations, described the recipe development process: “We wanted to think outside the box and showcase the spicy notes and characteristics of our chocolate rye with a brown Saison.”
Green Silo Saison finishes with all of the traits you’d expect from a Saison, with the delicate notes of silky chocolate, banana and dark cherries. The spiciness on the nose has notes of subtle black pepper, allspice, clove and nutmeg — all from the use of malt, not additional spices.
“Proximity takes great pride in working as the intermediary between the brewers and the growers. We are excited to support their commitment to the region by working together and purchasing malt grown right here in our home state,” explained Ska Brewing’s CEO Dave Thibodeau. Ska utilizes Proximity’s base and specialty malts in many of its recipes.
