Our good friends at Gusmer partner with a lot of great brands — Esau & Huber, Funke Gerber, Hamilton, PQ Corp. — but one of our favorites is Aber Instruments. The company makes innovative products that allow beer professionals to streamline operations with better accuracy and results when it comes to controlling yeast fermentation. An excellent example is the Aber Countstar. It’s the first slide-based image analysis instrument for yeast cell counts that uses the same safe, traditional stains used in microscopy.
The company noted: “One measurement takes less than 20 seconds and provides the cell count (total, live and dead), the viability percent, cell diameter and the degree of aggregation.” Impressed yet? Well, Rogue Ales and Spirits is. Watch Quinton Sturgeon, QA/QC leader at Rogue, talk about the ease and usability of the Countstar above.
“Counting 10,000 cells in a few seconds is a lot better than using five to 10 minutes to count 150 cells in duplicate. It made a lot of sense when I saw this thing on the market to pursue buying it. I’ve been really happy with it so far. It’s essentially a straight-up replacement for the hemocytometer.”
