I’ve been to the hop harvest at Crosby Hop Farm. It’s magical. The beautiful bines. The farm at full work. The aromas everywhere. The big celebrations that ensue. But like me, most of you probably didn’t make the hop harvest this year. Luckily, Crosby Hop Farm is bringing the harvest to you (the whole growing season actually). For the second year in a row, Crosby Hop Farm worked with Resonance Productions to capture the entire hop growing season in under three minutes. From Crosby:
Starting in April and wrapping up in September 2018, a photo of Crosby-grown Centennial was snapped every 15 minutes, for 13 hours each day. The overhead and ground level perspectives capture the beautiful and rapid growth of Centennial, the first variety harvested at the farm, with Mt. Hood in the distance. The drone footage offers a bird’s eye perspective of the harvest activities, hop processing facilities and when interlaced with multiple shoots, a moving time-lapse effect.
On Sept. 27, Crosby Hop Farm finished harvesting its 420 acres, which is an awesome number for many reasons. Crosby Hop Farm has been growing beautiful Oregon hops in the Willamette Valley for more than 100 years, and it’s a generational family business. After watching the video above, read my Q&A with Blake Crosby, fifth-generation hop farmer and all-around industry cool cat.
