Founders Brewing Co. announced it was planning to open a second taproom and brewery in Midtown Detroit last April. This was a big deal. It was the first time in Founders’ 20-year history that the company would open a second taproom outside of Grand Rapids, Mich. Cofounders Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers made a point of refurbishing a sad, old 14,000-sq-ft building located at 456 Charlotte St. Look at what this place used to look like. Today, the new facility is spectacular (see video above) and features a fully operational 4-bbl brewery and a retail taproom located in the lower Cass Corridor neighborhood, a burgeoning cultural hub adjacent to sports arenas, music venues and more.
Why Detroit?
“It’s a no bullshit town,” says Stevens in the video. “It has a huge fighter’s mentality, which is the very thing Founders was founded on.”
Satisfying answer. Learn more in the mini movie above, replete with funky beats — as you requested.
