I’ve never been to Golden Road Brewing’s new Sacramento location, but it looks cool. The alfresco bar and restaurant serves up beer and tacos and utilizes big blue shipping containers to encase the beer garden and even house a bar and brewing equipment. But, it’s pretty close to residential housing (take a looksee at this photo), and neighbors have apparently been complaining about the open-air patio’s noise levels and late hours. According to The Sacramento Bee:
“It’s just a wild party out there many nights a week. It’ll be 1:30 in the morning sometimes and you hear someone screaming or yelling,” said Sundermeyer, 61. “I was thinking about (Der) Biergarten on K Street, some place where people gather and have a few beers. I didn’t know (Golden Road) was going to be a crazy party place.”
So, if you’re looking for a crazy party place in Sacramento that focuses on beer and tacos, check out Golden Road’s location. I’ll meet you there. Much of the contention has to do with Golden Road’s Thursday through Saturday hours, when it stays open till 2 a.m. That’s not the case for other folks. Back to The Bee:
In this case, Vice Mayor Steve Hansen said, his office and police failed to properly condition Golden Road’s license with appropriate hours. Unlike other open-air bars on the grid such as Der Biergarten, Urban Roots and Midtown Cantina Alley that close at 10 p.m. during the workweek, Golden Road stays open until at least midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Golden Road has met with residents in hopes of solving the problem. I have reached out to Golden Road and will keep you apprised of any updates. To wrap up, it is of course obligatory that I also mention Golden Road is a part of Anheuser-Busch’s The High End portfolio, which already predisposes it to controversy with some indie-focused bars and breweries.
